Aluminum geocoins

Postby wvangler on Tue Nov 11, 2008 10:41 am

FYI, you may or may not already be aware of this. I just discovered the cheaper aluminum geocoins that don't cost you $4,000 to mint...they are aluminum coins sold by geocoins.net. There is a one time setup fee of $30 for your custom design then the cost of the trackable coin is $2.90 each with a minimum order of 10. So the min order is $29.00 plus the one time set up fee. Rawk! Yer gonna start seeing some groovy coins with a dry fly emblem popping up shortly

I also need to add that the customer service here is SUPER. Every time I email I get a response in lightning speed. I asked about custom shapes and this is what they said...

"Custom shapes are done a little differently. We charge per "sheet" on those.
Our stock is 12" x 4", and give a little bleed, about .05 on each side to allow
for not perfect cuts. A sheet runs $27.00 and allows for custom shapes and two
sided coins at no additional charge. The coin can be as big or as small as you
like. We can only do wood in custom sizes, not metal."

I have had some made up!! They are awesome...

only 1 thing...

When you get them, spray them with a coat of clearcoat or something. they kind of scratch up easy.

Thanks for the tip. I've got a spray can of clear acrylic. That should work.

If you would like them coated, SSPG has epoxy....Lots of epoxy!

I placed the order about a month ago and they had a snafu with the data and didn't ship my order. I inquired about it last week and they were sorely sorry about it. So they made it up to me by sending me three of the Napolean geocoins as a bonus and I got the order on Saturday. Check out the finished product...

I coated them with several coats of acrylic, but I still think they may end up scratching. I'm looking for some baggies or coin holders to put them in to help with that. You'd think there'd be more of the online cache supply sites offering those little folding coin holders. I could only find one place that did and I didn't feel like paying shipping on $2 worth of product. I'm gonna check at Kanawha Coin to see if they have anything I can use.

Looks nice. Let us know how they hold up with the scratching.

They look good!

I got the zip locks for my coins at Staples. If you don't find them at an office supply store, look for a local coin or trading card place, or a bookstore that handles coin supplies. If all else fails, these guys have them.

Cool! They look much better than I expected. Again, SSPG has epoxy if you think that may work.

Cool. I had the same experience. They were over the top on customer service. If I emailed them at 11 pm at night I had a response in 5 minutes. i think the company email goes straight to the guy's cell phone. I would submit an art design and he'd have it worked up in minutes. I'd ask for changes and it was done within the hour. My first order from them didn't come for over 2 weeks so I emailed him. He was so upset that my order had taken so long that he included 3 free Napoleon geocoins with my order to say sorry.
