Happy Birthday West Virginia (GC4AZVJ)

Postby Spotty Spotty Pony Girl on Sun Jul 21, 2013 8:24 am

From what I heard yesterday at Coopers Rock, sounds like a like of folks are going to head down to Sissonville to attend the Happy Birthday West Virginia event on August 10.

Who all is thinking of heading down?

I've been thinking about it and can drive.

Maybe a group caravan?

Yep. the planning committee (me & pbump) - are thinking that we'll go down Saturday and play it by ear if we need to stay over in order to wipe out some zones.

deizelsmommy, myself and maybe Rock_Rat are planning on clearing out Zones 4 and 5.
Staying overnight anywhere we can find but we have to be back in Fairmont, by 1 on Sunday.

Attended the event and got 8 caches in Zones 4 & 5. Two down, three to go.

How did the rest of you guys do?

How namy folks are going all the way and try to get all 75 caches to earn the "special" geocoin?

I know of two so far. Myself and Deizelsmommy.

I'll be going back to work soon, been off for 3 months for family reasons, but I'm definately going to try for the minimum of 8 per zone. I am *NOT* looking forward to zone 5 at all. I'm not at all familiar with the southern part of the state. Furthest south I really know is the Gassaway/Sutton area.

I really wanted to go to Happy Birthday West Virginia but it was just wasn't possible. I'm bummed but I shall perservere!

I expect to get the remaining coins for the individual zones 1, 2 and 3, but don't currently have any plans for finishing off the entire trail.

Actually, I was most excited this weekend about getting the 6th oldest cache in the state. Only one more of the Old Timers left! :w00t:

May I recommend dropping down to point pleasant first, then to Huntington. From there head back to Charleston. That will get you 8 in zone 5. Then drive to the hotel at Southridge off 119 south to claim your coin. It wasn't too bad. Well, it won't be too bad. We were in Sissonville, and drove to Point Pleasant, so we had a bit of an extra drive.
