WV Civil War Geo Trail

Postby wvhunter on Wed Jul 24, 2013 2:39 pm

Hi MAGPI,

I am looking for a little help for the folks running the WV Civil War Geo Trail.

They still need coordinates for cache locations at the below sites.

Please, if you can help, go to one of the needed sites, find a good cache location, get the coordinates, (and D/T rating), and then send them to me.
Once they get the coordinates and know who picked them, they will get a cache container to you to place at the location you picked.
(So yes, that means you will need to make two trips to the cache location.)

Deadline for the needed locations is August 4th. I know it's short notice but they really need our help.
I've marked the four I will take care of.

NOTE: The folks at ExploreWV still need to supply us with one more needed location to be posted later.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zone 2
• Cannon Hill, Rowlesburg (Preston County)
• General McClellan’s Headquarters (Taylor County)
• Laurel Hill (Barbour County)
• Kesler’s Raid (Upshur County)
• Summit Fort (Randolph County)
• Elkwater (Fort Marrow) (Randolph County)

wvhunter - Stonewall Jackson Birthplace, Clarksburg (Harrison County)
wvhunter - Pierpont House, Fairmont (Marion County)
wvhunter - Pierpont’s Grave (Marion County)
wvhunter - Westover Bridge (Monongalia County)

Thanx to any and all that can help.

A couple of us are working on Laurel Hill, Cheat Summit Fort and Elkwater.

  • I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

  • I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make when they go flying by.

Kesler’s Raid (Upshur County) is taken care of and I will send you the coords.
I was a beautiful and very well taken care of little park in the middle of an intersection.

Sent an email to pbump about finding a certain cemetery in Doddridge Co.
Also it looks like Zone 2 has only 14 caches unless I am given another location to use.

Aquacache & I placed Laurel HIll, Summit Fort & Elkwater. We had to stop at the Beverly Historic Center to find out how to get to the actual site of Elkwater since it's pretty much not common knowledge. So your welcome explorewv civil war geo-trail for our detective work. We were rewarded with the best preserved redoubt I've ever seen. Plus, we got to learn about how one of the original canons from the Michigan Artillery (they went from 6 lb smooth bore canons to 12 lb parrot bore canons) was brought back for Beverly's sesquicentennial a few years ago and place in the redoubt where it would have originally seen service. Thought that was super cool.

I'll get the info to you tomorrow, probably.

So who has completed what zones on this thing?

I've gotten my 8 required caches in Zones 2, 4 & 5 and will most likely finish up Zone 1 Sunday. Zone 3 is all up in the air. Figure I'll end up being among the unlucky who have to buy that last coin so I have the entire state.

As of tomorrow morning I'll have gotten all 75. Just need Clarksburg.
I already have my coins for each zone. Now I just have to get the special.

TeamTwizz is just trying for our home zone (zone 2). Have 7 so far. Seems like you really needed to get started on this one early and have scads of free time to complete it. We were in Elkins this weekend and were going to nab one or two while down there but got a call while heading to Huttonsville about a family emergency, so we rushed back home to our Marion/Harrison county base of operations. Seems like a lot of the caches are getting destroyed or muggled in the other zones any way. Hoping to get the Morgantown one then turn in for the zone soon.

I know a lot of people are complaining on forums about how the civil war geos are being muggled or whatever so quickly and to this I have to say. You try hiding 75 caches all over the state in about a months time and see what happens! Thanks to all of the effort that was put in by everyone.
